Facility Manager

Description

The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO), Canada’s Centre for Pandemic Research, is a world leader in infectious disease research and vaccine development for humans and animals. Located at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, VIDO is home to one of the largest and most advanced containment level 3 facilities in the world. To strengthen the preparedness for emerging infectious diseases we are currently expanding our infrastructure to include containment level 4 capacity, a GMP vaccine manufacturing facility, and a new animal housing facility. Our vision includes having the capacity to study any emerging disease in any animal model embracing a One Health approach to prevent emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in humans and animals.
 
Reporting to the Director of Facilities, you will be responsible for the overall maintenance and daily operation of all VIDO facilities. This includes leading the operation and maintenance of the InterVac high-containment facility, ensuring effective resource allocation and scheduling of work. In addition, the Facility Manager oversees the operation of all other VIDO facilities and coordinates maintenance activities currently delivered by the University of Saskatchewan’s Facilities Management team.

Job requirements
·        Oversee the daily operational & maintenance activities to ensure the provision of safe and secure laboratory conditions within the containment environments in compliance with federal regulations.
·        Coordinate a challenging combination of initiatives, contributing to and ensuring the integrity of the overall building operation. These initiatives will include research and analysis of trends and best practices, process management, and development of key maintenance practices (e.g. corrective, preventive, predictive).
·        Build and maintain effective professional working relationships with both external service providers and FMD Trade Shops to ensure timely and efficient work and service delivery.
·        Lead, interact, and collaborate daily with trade personnel, supervisors, managers, work groups, engineers and project managers. 
·        Responsible for engaging facilities’ contacts and customers.
·        Handle multiple projects with changing, and sometimes conflicting, priorities.
·        Work independently and collectively as appropriate, reviewing priorities with the Director of Facilities.

Education
·        A bachelor’s degree in applied engineering science (Mechanical, Electrical, etc), or a post-secondary technical education in one of the applied sciences (mechanical, electrical, CMMS Certification, etc.), which may include a technology diploma, and a combination of training in a prescribed mechanical or HVAC trade recognized by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission.  
 
Experience
·        Minimum ten (10) years’ experience within the building mechanical industry, including large commercial system installations and operations.
·        Knowledge of complex high performance system construction, commissioning, and integration
·        Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Process Management, supervision of employees and interpreting blueprints. 
·        Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. 
Other
·        Knowledge of the sophisticated building systems within a high containment laboratory environment would be considered an asset. 
·        Must hold and maintain a valid Province of Saskatchewan Driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
 
Status: Permanent
Employment Group: Non-Union
Shift: Monday - Friday, 7.5 hours per day (37.5 hours per week); evening and weekend work may be required to attend to emergent situations
