Mechanical and Operational Support Technician
Description
The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO), Canada’s Centre for Pandemic Research, is a world leader in infectious disease research and vaccine development for humans and animals. Located at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, VIDO is home to one of the largest and most advanced containment level 3 facilities in the world. To strengthen the preparedness for emerging infectious diseases we are currently expanding our infrastructure to include containment level 4 capacity, a GMP vaccine manufacturing facility, and a new animal housing facility. Our vision includes having the capacity to study any emerging disease in any animal model embracing a One Health approach to prevent emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in humans and animals.
Reporting to the Facility Manager, you will support planned maintenance and biosafety programs. The candidate will be a member of, and work cooperatively with, the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Team.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with implementation, execution of non-destructive testing programs, interpret the results, evaluate and make recommendations as well as assist with implementation of changes or repairs.
- Perform on-going decontamination requirements of laboratory spaces, equipment and HEPA filters, including waste stream operation and maintenance and cycle verification.
- Complete HEPA filter scanning
- Assist with maintaining and monitoring inventory assets within the asset management system to ensure component availability for continued critical infrastructure reliability.
- Assist with annual facility performance verification, testing and reporting as assigned.
- Assist with various tasks with the O&M team
- Assist with the receipt of large deliveries to the facility.
Education Required:
- Diploma or Certificate in a related field (Building Systems Technician)
Experience Required:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience
- Equivalent experience in an intensive mechanical reliability environment would be considered.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to perform, interpret and evaluate test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications or procedures
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Exceptional problem-solving ability, with attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- Physical requirements may include prolonging standing, walking, crouching and reaching.
- Must be capable of working in specialized environments under conditions that require use of specific/applicable PPE.
Status: Permanent
Employment Group: Non-Union
Shift: Monday - Friday, 7.5 hours per day (37.5 hours per week); evening and weekend work may be required to attend to emergent situations
