The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO), Canada’s Centre for Pandemic Research, is a world leader in infectious disease research and vaccine development for humans and animals. Located at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, VIDO is home to one of the largest and most advanced containment level 3 facilities in the world. To strengthen the preparedness for emerging infectious diseases we are currently expanding our infrastructure to include containment level 4 capacity, a GMP vaccine manufacturing facility, and a new animal housing facility. Our vision includes having the capacity to study any emerging disease in any animal model embracing a One Health approach to prevent emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in humans and animals.

The Mycobacterial Pathogenesis & Tuberculosis (TB) Research Group seeks to better understand how the TB bacteria sickens those it infects and develop new vaccines and therapies to combat TB. We are seeking a Research Technician to join our Mycobacterial Pathogenesis & Tuberculosis (TB) research group. Reporting to Dr. Jeffrey Chen, the Research Technician is responsible for performing and/or assisting with experimental activities as directed, accurately recording procedures used and data generated. The candidate will also be required to assist in laboratory up-keep and other duties as assigned. This position may occasionally require coming into the lab on weekends.
Qualifications
· An undergraduate degree in microbiology, immunology or cell biology is required
· Requirement to undertake containment level-3 training and work in this environment
· Experience working with pathogenic bacteria, technical competency in mammalian cell/tissue culture and fluorescence microscopy, as well as immunology methods like ELISA are assets
· Experience working in containment level-3 conditions is an asset
Status: 1-year term, with the possibility of extension or becoming permanent
Employment Group: Non-Union
Shift: Monday - Friday, 7.5 hours per day (37.5 hours per week)
