The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO), Canada’s Centre for Pandemic Research, is a world leader in infectious disease research and vaccine development for humans and animals. Located at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, VIDO is home to one of the largest and most advanced containment level 3 facilities in the world. To strengthen the preparedness for emerging infectious diseases we are currently expanding our infrastructure to include containment level 4 capacity, a GMP vaccine manufacturing facility, and a new animal housing facility. Our vision includes having the capacity to study any emerging disease in any animal model embracing a One Health approach to prevent emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in humans and animals.
 
We are seeking a Facility Assistant to join our GMP Vaccine Development Centre (VDC). Reporting to the Head of Regulated Vaccine Manufacturing, the VDC Facility Assistant will provide ongoing support associated with vaccine development and manufacturing operations that includes, but is not limited to, custodial and laundry services, GMP cleaning of regulated cleanrooms, decontamination and washing of stainless steel piping, plastic carboys, and laboratory glassware used in vaccine manufacturing, safe handling and movement of chemicals, components, supplies, parts, and other materials between VDC cleanrooms and regulated storage areas. All work performed within the GMP Vaccine Development Centre is performed according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and must be documented with neat and legible printing (no handwriting).

Qualifications
·      High school diploma or equivalent

Experience
·      Experience with janitorial duties (medical facility cleaning protocols)
·      Experience following Standardized Procedures in a diligent and consistent manner
·      Experience completing documentation with neat and legible printing (no handwriting)
·      Experience with shipping and receiving of goods is an asset
·      Computer skills are an asset

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Safety Considerations
·      Must be willing and capable of safely lifting static weights up to 20 kg
·      The position requires prolonged standing, walking, crouching, reaching, and the safe use of step ladders.
·      Work environment will require use of specific PPE such as safety glasses, face masks or respirators (no facial hair allowed), hairnets, laboratory coats, smocks, bunny suits, gloves, and steel toe shoes
·      Must be willing to work in a collaborative team environment, and able to adapt to changing needs and priorities
 
Status: Permanent
Employment Group: Non-Union
Shift: Monday – Friday (standard hours of work are 8:00am – 4:30 pm), 7.5 hours per day (37.5 hours per week), with ability to work occasional flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0
